IEEE Smart Grid Communications 2025 – Toronto

PRIME Alliance continued its engagement with the IEEE International Conference on Smart Grid Communications (SmartGridComm 2025) as a Gold Sponsor.

The conference, which took place in Toronto (Canada) from September 29 to October 2, provided an optimal environment for researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, government institutions, and regulators across a variety of sectors to share knowledge and ideas, and to discuss the present and future of smart grid technologies. PRIME Alliance extends its appreciation to IEEE for opening their doors once again to foster this exchange of expertise.

PRIME Alliance on the Keynote Stage: PRIME, Supporting Smart Grid Growth and Flexibility

We were honored that Alfredo Sanz from Advanced Engineering Devices (AED), a valued PRIME member, represented the association among the keynote speakers on October 1, 2025, from 13:30 to 14:30. Alfredo explored how PRIME can drive smart grid growth and enhance adaptability, particularly in:

  • Optimizing response to demand fluctuations

  • Improving end-user load management

  • Contributing to grid stability amid evolving generation and consumption patterns

His keynote also highlighted ongoing research initiatives, including the expansion of PRIME beyond AMI, with a special focus on home applications. Attendees were provided with an in-depth discussion on how PRIME supports flexibility in demand response and real-time load management.

Panel Participation: Power Line Communication in the Age of Digital Grids

Alfredo also participated in Panel 1: “Power Line Communication in the Age of Digital Grids: New Roles and Challenges”, organized by G3 Alliance on September 30, 2025, from 17:00 to 18:30. This session examined:

  • The evolution of Power Line Communication (PLC)

  • How hybrid communication networks were being leveraged

  • Opportunities to augment existing infrastructures

  • Emerging challenges in digital, decentralized, real-time grids

For professionals interested in the intersection of communications and energy, infrastructure evolution, and standardization, this panel provided valuable insights.

PRIME Alliance sincerely thanks Alfredo for his active participation and contribution to representing the association at the conference.
