The fourth annual PRIME Utility-to-Utility User Group Conference organized by the PRIME Alliance in cooperation with A.T. Kearney took place on September 25th and 26th in Prague. Over 50 participants from more than 25 utility companies based in Europe, Africa and the Middle East attended the two-day conference to exchange practical experience from smart metering concept design and roll-outs. Speakers from major European utilities such as, Iberdrola, EDP, Naturgy and Energa-Operator, shared their knowledge and latest lessons learnt from smart metering implementation.

On Tuesday, Angel Hernandez, Chairman of the PRIME Promotional Working Group welcomed all participants in his opening speech and then passed the word to Inigo Berganza, Chairman of the PRIME Technical Working Group. Mr. Berganza reminded the audience on the group scope and structure while reporting on the current development of PRIME specifications, certification process and device implementation. He also introduced the new whitepaper on cybersecurity. At the end of first day, Angel Hernandez took over again focusing on PRIME 1.4 Pilot Deployments experience in Egypt.

On the second day, Miguel Angel Sánchez Fornié, General Secretary of the PRIME Alliance, devoted his presentation to PRIME Alliance’s current strategy in the framework of digitalization. Martin Kuca, Director at A.T. Kearney, closed the conference with his report about A.T.
Third PRIME Alliance Utility to Utility User Group Conference Held in Gdansk on September 12th and 13th

Brussels, September 25th, 2017

The third annual edition of the Utility-to-Utility User Group Conference was hosted by ENERGA- OPERATOR SA (EOP) for the first time. The main activity was the exchange of experience in implementation regarding Smart Metering and Smart Grid among DSOs, which was attended by representatives of distribution system operators.

As PRIME Alliance operates as an international non-profit association promoting the open standard of communication in intelligent power grids, the two-day conference welcomed representatives of DSOs from around the world: VIESGO, Iberdrola, EDP, HC ENERGIA, Gas Natural Fenosa, EDP Distribuicao, Lebanon BUS (Butec Utility Services); NEUC (National Electrical Utility Company); Brazil (Neoenergia), Czech Republic (PREdistribuce, a.s.) and Croatia (HEP d.d.).

The meeting was opened on September 12th by Jarosław Leszczełowski, EOP IT Director, moderated by Angel Hernandez Chairman of the PRIME Promotion Group and Andrzej Walentynowicz from the EOP Measurement Management Bureau. The high level of content, presentations and discussions on real problems created an interactive workshop-like atmosphere. All presenters were asked a wide range of questions on solving specific subjects.

The technical presentation of PRIME Alliance was done by Inigo Berganza, Chairman of the Technical Working Group. He presented the current status of the development of PRIME specifications, technology choices and future directions. It was also possible for him to submit ideas directly influencing the upcoming features and specifications of PRIME.

Wieslaw Frydrych, EOP Architect and Systems Attorney closed the two-day conference on September 13th, by particularly thanking the high level presenters and the proactive participants for their open discussion. Though network layouts, legal regulations, and general goals differ from country to country, most problems faced have a common aspect across distance. This shows how important and value- adding the exchange of experiences are today and tomorrow.

The PRIME Alliance has attracted key industry players, including Sponsoring Members El Sewedy Electometer and ZIV. The goal of the Alliance is to provide a framework in which the smart metering and smart grid industry have access to open detailed technical specifications in order to develop fully interoperable solutions, allowing multiple vendors to be operational within the same distribution network in one common system architecture. Detailed technical specs include Physical PHY layer and Medium Access Control MAC layer specifications.

The PRIME Alliance provides a forum for the definition, maintenance and support of an open and comprehensive standard for narrowband power line for Smart Grid products and services. The mission of the Alliance is to accelerate the demand for products and services based on this worldwide standard and promote the broad adoption and use of the specification while certifying multi-vendor interoperability and compatibility with the global standard. The Alliance is open to all potential partners who agree to actively support and promote an open and public specification for the benefit of the end-user and all industry stakeholders.
2nd PRIME Alliance Utility to Utility User Group Conference Held in Lisbon

27th January 2016, Brussels: PRIME Alliance held its 2nd Utility to Utility User Group Conference on the 20th and 21st of January 2016, featuring Commercial Smart Metering and Smart Grid Roll Out presentations by EDP Portugal, Energa-Operator Poland, Gas Natural Fenosa and Iberdrola Spain.

With PRIME deployments soon reaching the 11 million smart meters mark worldwide and a considerable number of pilot projects taking place, PRIME Alliance has organised the 2nd yearly User Group Conference for utilities to benefit from hearing directly from other utilities concerning their PRIME deployments. Attendees directly heart from the Technical Working Group on how PRIME V1.4 as a telecommunications technology supports the smart metering and smart grid and how to use PRIME Technology to provide a robust, secured and wideband PLC for wireline and wireless applications.

In-depth presentations addressing deployment facts, security, architectures and solutions were presented to the audience by four (4) leading utilities; Energa-Operator, Energias de Portugal, Gas Natural Fenosa and Iberdrola, with ample time for discussion, questions and answers built into this two day workshop.

3rd PRIME Alliance Utility to Utility User Group Announcement

The next PRIME utility to utility user group hosting utility and location has just been decided, taking place in Gdansk, Poland in 2017 and will be hosted by the Utility and PRIME Alliance board member, Energa-Operator, Poland. The date and agenda will follow later in 2016.

Interested utilities can register by emailing alexandre.egger@prime-alliance.org

9th February 2015, Brussels: The PRIME Alliance held its first Utility to Utility User Group Conference hosted by Iberdrola and GNF in Madrid between the 21st and 22nd of January 2015.

With a strong participation of attendees, Iberdrola, GNF, EDP and Energa-Operator exchanged in a very open and trusted manner their experiences in rolling out PRIME in different type of Grids and with different needs.

A rich set of presentations covering the network performances, challenges, architectures, applications and protocols were displayed and discussed in a very open and trusted manner.

Out of these real experiences, not only the key presenting power utilities managers are benefiting from each other and the roll out lessons learnt but also the attending utilities, which are not members of the PRIME Alliance, are able to take advantage of this unique opportunity.

As a result of this very encouraging first utility to utility user group conference, the attendees unanimously decided to repeat that experience for next year. EDP gently offered to the attendees to host next year conference in Lisbon and the details will be announced at a later date.

It is to underline that the PRIME Utility User Group conference is free and open to every utility that would like to attend it. No matter if the Utility is or a PRIME Alliance Member or not.
