| Technology Overview |
When the number of meters reaches millions of units, it becomes apparent that it is very difficult to achieve secure and reliable communication with control centers. Even more so when some of the functions associated with the Smart Grid concept need communications in real time. In such situations, telecommunications are a great challenge and new smart meters play a key role in successfully facing this new challenge.
PRIME (PoweRline Intelligent Metering Evolution) represents a new public, open and non-proprietary telecommunications architecture which will support present and future AMM functionalities and enable the building of the electricity networks of the future, or Smart Grids.
PRIME technology uses Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) in CENELEC A-band. The final target of PRIME is to establish a complete set of international standards which will allow for interoperability among equipment and systems from different manufacturers. Thus, competition in the metering market will benefit consumers.
Unlike other commercially available solutions, the components of this new architecture (modulation and coding techniques, protocols, data formats, etc.) will not be subject to any Intellectual Property Right. Thanks to PRIME, specifications of an AMM system will be comprehensive and detailed enough so that any new entrant will be able to provide interoperable solutions to the market.
PRIME defines lower OSI layers of a PLC narrowband data transmission system over the electricity grid. The whole system has been designed to be low cost and high performance.

Convergence Sub-Layer
Classifies traffic associating it with its proper MAC connection. This layer performs the mapping of any kind of traffic to be properly included in MAC SDUs. Multiple CSs are defined in order to accommodate different kinds of traffic into MAC SDUs. |

MAC Layer
Provides core MAC functionalities of system access, bandwidth allocation, connection management and topology resolution. It has been defined for a connection oriented Master-Slave environment, and optimized for low voltage power line environments. |

PHY Layer
Transmits and receives MAC PDUs between Neighbor Nodes. It is based
on OFDM multiplexing in CENELEC A band and reaches up to 130 kbps raw data rate. |

CIRWATT B200RCP is a multi-function digital single-phase meter, current range 10 (60)A, and Class B for active energy and 2 for reactive energy (IEC 62053-21). The meter complies with the current European legislation related to energy meters (MID) EN 50470-1 and EN 50470-3, which approves the installation of these meters in any country of the European Union. This device is also certified by KEMA, with the DLMS protocol.
It includes PLC (Power Line Carrier) communications through the power grid, according to the PRIME Alliance specifications, with an OFDM (orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing) modulation. On the top of this modulation there is the DLMS standard protocol, which is also available through the optical port. Both communications, PLC and optical port, are certified by KEMA with the PRIME Alliance’s conformance tests.
The memory of the meter, can store up to 3 months of hourly registers for 6 types of energy. Likewise, data can be read when there is no voltage. It includes an internal circuit breaker with an auto reclosing relay system, that cuts phase and neutral, which can be used by the user to control the supply demand with a reliable and safe approach. By the utility, it is used for demand control operations.

Single phase static meter for both active and reactive energy measurement, direct connection, for indoor installation, with PLC communication capabilities according with PRIME standard, and AMM functionalities. DOMOTAX TeLeGeST PRIME has been tested and approved according MID.
Regarding metrological features, it is a meter with active class B according with EN 50470-3 and reactive class 2 according with EN 62053-23.
The principal use of this meter is for residential customers, up to 15 kW.
