Semitech Semiconductor has developed a multi-standard OFDM-based power line communications (PLC) transceiver that can operate in a wide range of noise-prone smart-grid environments, while addressing a multitude of established and evolving standards and proprietary modes.  Dubbed SM2400, Semitech's latest device is an OFDM-based N-PLC modem that combines a PHY, MAC, and mixed-signal components. It features a programmable architecture by using two 32-bit cores configured specifically for N-PLC modulations and protocols. It supports all common OFDM-based standards, including IEEE 1901.2, G3-PLC, and PRIME.
